Setting off fireworks in your garden is not trivial. Although the performance takes place in a private location, the use of fireworks or firecrackers is regulated by law and also requires certain precautions. In France, only products in categories F1 (indoor), F2 (outdoor use with a safe distance of 8 meters) and F3 (outdoor use with a safe distance of 25 meters) are allowed for individuals in a private place. Any purchase or use of F4 fireworks by non-professionals is strictly prohibited.
No permit is required to set off fireworks in your garden. However, it is more appropriate to ask the city hall or prefecture to verify whether an order has been issued to prohibit this practice.
During these holidays, e.g. the prefecture of Var prohibits the purchase and use of fireworks, regardless of their category, in all municipalities in the departmentas reported by France 3. These bans are in effect from Saturday, December 30 at 8:00 a.m. until Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.
Precautions to be aware of
If your prefecture allows fireworks, still consider notify your town hall as a precaution and also the emergency center of the departmental fire and rescue service closest to your place of residence.
Before you set off the fireworks, read the terms of use carefully and keep the safety distances indicated and do not allow children to approach or handle firecrackers. Keep a bucket of water nearby to put out the fire at any time.
At the end of the fireworks, wait fifteen minutes before approaching the devices and pour water on them before throwing them away. It is always best to return them to the point of sale after use.
